What is the Experience Residency Program?
Experience Residencies empower early to mid-career professionals in premium post-production through immersive, nine-month paid apprenticeships focused on documentary filmmaking. Participants gain hands-on experience within specialized tracks, working alongside industry leaders in high-performing post-production environments.

The program provides in-depth exposure to professional workflows, guided by meaningful mentorship that accelerates skill development and industry insight, knowledge that often takes years to acquire. By working alongside top producers and creative teams, participants gain real-world experience and access to valuable networks early in their careers.

Who can apply for the program?

Experience Residencies are open to all. This program is designed to create greater access and visibility into creative careers for individuals from all walks of life. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and be eligible for employment in the United States.

Who is the ideal candidate for the program?

The program is designed for early to mid-career professionals with experience in post-production or related fields. Ideal candidates are passionate about their craft, committed to professional growth, and eager to collaborate within diverse creative teams. This is not a shadowing experience — Residents are expected to contribute meaningfully to active projects. A foundational skill level is required to ensure a productive and rewarding experience for both the Resident and the teams they support. Applicants should also demonstrate a clear intention to build a long-term career in the field, as the program is designed to support lasting professional development.

What does the application process involve?

The application criteria intend to gather a holistic view of each candidate, including a statement of interest, resumé, biography, work samples, and letters of recommendation.

When is the application deadline?

Sunday, August 10, 2025 @ 11:59pm PT.

What is the timeline for the application and selection process?

Each application is independently evaluated by a minimum of two reviewers in the relevant discipline.  Those advancing proceed to a series of interviews, which take place via video conference.

Once the application period has closed, the review and selection process takes approximately 16 weeks before offer letters are extended to the next cohort of Residents. We are targeting the first week of December 2025 for offer letters to go out.

The nine-month program will commence in January 2026 and conclude in October 2026.

What kind of mentorship will I receive?

Residents benefit from a dual mentorship model that includes one-on-one sessions with industry professionals and ongoing support from Experience program directors. This structured mentorship approach focuses on skill development, career planning, and navigating the post-production industry.

Will there be opportunities for networking?

Absolutely. The program includes access to industry gatherings, speaker events, and workshops, offering Residents opportunities to connect with industry experts, forge meaningful connections, and expand their professional networks.

What happens after the program ends?

Upon completing the program, Residents will receive continued career development and networking support from the Industry Standard leadership team.

How many Residents are accepted into the program each cycle?

The number of Residents varies for each cycle based on the Industry Partners' capacity. The goal is to offer a personalized and impactful experience for each Resident.

Is this program paid?

Resident positions are considered full-time positions, with occasional overtime that may be required as necessary in a given project. Healthcare and Paid Sick Leave Benefits will be offered as well. Pay Ranges from $28-$33 per hour based on prior experience and the position in which you will be working.

Will holidays be observed?

Industry Standard observes the following National Holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President’s Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, National Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day.

Is this an in-person Residency?

We strongly recommend that participants have an in-person experience. While some Industry Partners may offer hybrid workflows, we’ve found that being on-site leads to a more immersive, connected, and rewarding residency. In-person collaboration allows Residents to engage more purposefully with their peers, workflows, and day-to-day learning opportunities.

Is there a stipend for travel or housing?

Not at this time.

What if I am a student concurrently, may I participate?

The Residencies are full-time positions requiring a minimum of 40 hours per week. It is advised that students with a full academic course load should not apply.

Can international applicants apply?

If you are located in the US and you have the legal right to work in the US, then you can apply. We do have future plans to hold a program abroad, so if you are located outside the US and would like to be considered for future opportunities, please let us know by registering your interest here.
